Hiring for taste (and how we get it wrong)

Feb 2026

Taste is the word every studio reaches for and almost nobody defines. In hiring, we used to treat it as something a portfolio proves on its own — a folder of polished work, reviewed in silence, scored on gut feel.

What actually predicts a good hire is watching someone defend a choice they'd make differently today. It surfaces judgment, not just output, and it's the single change to our process that's paid off the most.
